Cyberwoven Wins National Gold American Advertising Award
Cyberwoven Awarded the Gold ADDY for its Work on PBS/American Experience’s Interactive Companion Site, She Resisted
Columbia, S.C. [June 14, 2021] — Cyberwoven was awarded a Gold American Advertising Award on Friday, June 11th, during the American Advertising Federation’s 2021 National Awards Gala, for “She Resisted: Strategies of Suffrage,” an interactive website companion to PBS/AMERICAN EXPERIENCE’s award-winning documentary series, The Vote, released in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment.
“She Resisted” is an immersive, interactive website that explores the suffrage movement’s strategies through its most powerful images, brought to life through the striking dimension of color. AMERICAN EXPERIENCE (the PBS documentary history series produced by WGBH Boston) partnered with Cyberwoven to create an interactive experience that dives deep into the strategies and tactics used during the suffrage movement; as well as to serve as an educational companion to the documentary.

“She Resisted” comprises a series of storyboards comprised of embedded video, images and audio, all with text overlaid that walks the user through eight different strategies and tactics used by those in the suffrage movement.
By meticulously restoring color to archival stills and the upscaling and colorization of historical footage, “She Resisted” offers a heightened immersive experience of the vision, perseverance, and radicality of the women who won the vote. AMERICAN EXPERIENCE worked with renowned photographic colorist Marina Amaral to restore color to century-old archival stills, and with video restoration experts Neural Love to upscale and colorize archival footage using neural networks.
“In ‘She Resisted,’ the suffragists’ activism feels freshly modern, even now, one hundred years later, and it couldn’t be timelier,” said AMERICAN EXPERIENCE Director of Digital Content Ben Greenberg. “We wanted this history to feel dynamic, relevant, and engaging, which our partnership with Cyberwoven helped us achieve.”

About the American Advertising Awards:
Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation, the American Advertising Awards is a three-tier, national competition, starting at the local level. Concurrently, across the country, local entrants vie to receive an ADDY Award—recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the American Advertising Awards national stage. Selection of the most creative entry in each category is affected by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY is a recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the category. Entries also considered outstanding and worthy of recognition receive a Silver ADDY.
